Beginning my career in Real Estate about 4 years ago I have seen thousands of houses. Inside and out, large and small, extravagant to humble. No matter what style of home it is, my favorite home will always be near a golf course.
When tasked to brainstorm and share what was my favorite home I have ever seen or been in, homes from my past came rushing into my brain. My childhood home, a simple 3 bed 2 bath ranch home located in Palo Alto before google and apple arrived. Seeing the transformation of the yard through the years stands out to me from grassy lawns transforming to a vegetable garden and a back yard play area turning into a swimming pool. Nostalgia plays a heavy factor when thinking about where I grew up and all the fond memories that accompany that home. However the home itself does not take my top spot.
Fast forward to 2007, I had just accepted a job opening The Golf Club at Gray’s Crossing. A new private golf course development in Truckee. One of the first homes built was the Sunset Magazine Idea House. Set on perhaps the best lot of land in Gray’s Crossing this idea home overlooked the 18th hole and its vast meadow. The home itself was small to scale, small bedrooms, an extra in-law bedroom/bath with separate entry. Where it lacked in size, it made up for it in class. The architecture angles and added features to the home made it cutting edge at the time. From reclaimed snowmelt/water capture for landscape to heated gutters this one had some bells and whistles that almost made it my favorite home ever. The location also pushed this property to my number 2. In 2018, I found it. My dream property, location, design and materials could not be better. Nestled in the Lahontan community the Garwood Estate was built and designed by NSM construction. This 4 bed 5 bath home is 6,000 sq. feet. The really unique feel about this home is the length of it. It sits on the 1 acre property like a snake providing different sections of the house. All the views from the home are of the Lahontan pond with hole #2 of the golf course in the background. The home and property provide just the right amount privacy and the craftsmanship NSM provided is simply masterful. Lastly this home checks my must have box of being near a golf course with huge bonus points because in my opinion the Lahontan Golf Club is one of the best clubs/courses in all of California.
