Advice for Girls: An All-Women Ski Film
November 6-7th | 5 & 7 pm | Tahoe Art Haus
Advice for Girls puts a spotlight on the collective experience of women in the ski industry. The film showcases advice from three generations of women in skiing. Each generation reminds women and girls of all ages that they are worthy of success, allowed to take up space, and are extremely valuable to the ski industry.
With an intersectional cast featuring all types of women – women of color, queer women, women with disabilities, and more – the crew hopes that everyone can find someone in the film to connect to. “My hope is that the film will help girls skip over some of the limiting beliefs imposed upon past generations of skiers and inspire them to show up as their truest selves,” says producer and athlete Addy Jacobsen.

Winter Speaker Series #1: Michelle Parker’s A New Perspective
November 30th | 6 pm | Olympic Village Events Center
One of freeskiing’s most recognizable and in-demand talents, Michelle Parker feels most at home when tackling big mountain terrain. 2022 marked the 20th season of Michelle Parker’s professional skiing career, and year after year, a desire to learn and evolve has seen the popular freeskier push the ceiling of the sport. Parker, now one of the ski industry’s most versatile female skiers, has appeared in over a dozen ski films and in 2013, won Best Female Performance at the Powder Video Awards and at the International Freeski Film Festival for her segment in Matchstick Productions’ Superheroes of Stoke. Over the last several years, the Tahoe native worked with Red Bull to create the popular mini-series Originate. In 2022, Parker took on the role of director for the energy brand’s next film, Continuum.
Just before the Red Bull Continuum film project was slated to launch, Parker’s father was diagnosed with dementia, after already struggling for eight years with Parkinson’s Disease. The reality of the diagnosis allowed Parker to reconsider her priorities in order to work from home and spend as much time with her father as possible. Instead of sending lines with her trademark fluidity, Parker became a part-time caregiver for her father. The new experience gave one of the darlings of the ski industry a new perspective on the fragility of life. In her show A Shift In Perspective, Parker will take us on an emotional journey that showed her how time spent with her father was life’s biggest gift yet, and how this new perspective helped her succeed on a recent big mountain, Alaskan ski expedition.
