The golf clubs are dusted off and the mountain bike is tuned, but with skiing still lingering on my mind I’d like to share some very exciting news about Two Mountains and One Gondola. Squaw Valley and local landowner Troy Caldwell have announced an agreement to connect Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows via a high-speed detachable gondola- this will link up 6,000 acres of skiable terrain. The new gondola will be approximately 2 miles (an estimated 13 minute ride) transporting 1,400 skiers per hour. This is great news for the entire community throughout Truckee/Tahoe. As we all know, the “rising tide” raises all boats. With KSL Capital Partners at Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows and Vail Resorts at Northstar Resort, the Tahoe region seems to be in great form for economic growth over the years to come. Additionally, Squaw Valley reports that they seek to ensure good stewardship of the surrounding alpine environment throughout the design and construction of this project by carefully executing the build while minimizing the overall footprint and potential visual impacts of the Squaw-Alpine Interconnect.
