While many may be ready to enjoy the sun and the warm beaches for this Memorial Day Weekend, you may want to consider bringing your skis and snowboards instead of boardshorts this time.
We have had multiple storms already from the last week and this week that have dropped upwards of 28 inches of snow on the upper mountains in the last 7 days!
Monday had a break but it was short-lived as another storm moved in on Tuesday dropping over 5″ of snow above 7,000 feet!
Last Week, Sunday morning was another fresh tracks morning as 1-5 inches of snow fell across the basin Saturday night. That was on top of 6-18 inches from Thursday night. We now have seen more snow recorded for May by the open ski resorts than what they recorded for the entire month of April!
Some may view this as a deterrent to visit the area, as I choose to embrace the unpredictability of Mother Nature as this is truly what makes living in the mountains so exciting. With Squaw Valley turning their lifts until July 7th, and Heavenly opening this holiday weekend…rarely do you get the opportunity to ski powder, bike and golf all in the same day.
Yes, despite all of the recent snow at elevation, Old Greenwood is open, and playing amazing, as Gray’s Crossing is slated to open this Friday. Bring some extra layers and book you tee times now…but maybe go ski some pow in the morning first!
If you are planning on visiting us this weekend, don’t forget to join us for our annual Memorial Day Luxury Home Preview Tour where we showcase some of the most beautiful properties in Tahoe/Truckee.
Below is a photo recap of my past week here in this beautiful place I get to call home…
