I find myself often saying, “this is my favorite time of the year”, or “this is my favorite activity to do in Tahoe”. Last Tuesday on my son’s 4th Birthday I said both before heading out on our annual expedition into the woods to find the perfect Christmas Tree.
There are many areas around Truckee to find a tree, but of course I wanted to make an adventure out of it, so we drove 1 hour North to the Plumas National Forest near Lake Davis. With a $10 permit we ventured into the wilderness.
Not only is cutting your own Christmas Tree a fun activity for the family, but you are actually contributing to a reduction of over-growth and fuels which is a big help to the forest service to maintain a healthy wilderness. The icing on the cake is when you get to decorate the tree with your family and enjoy holiday cookies, egg nog and music. We had a great time watching my oldest son put ornaments up, while my youngest son kept tearing them down. I will cherish these memories of Tahoe traditions all my life.
