I feel blessed to be able to have seen so many amazing architectural masterpieces in my career right here in the Truckee/Tahoe area. While so many aspects of these beautiful homes are guaranteed to blow your socks off…the one room that continuously makes or breaks a house for me is the…..MEDIA ROOM.
The term media room has evolved into a generic definition for a multipurpose space that is outfitted with a large flat-screen television, surround sound and cozy seating. Friends congregate there to watch the big game. Families go there to watch a movie together. It’s party central when guests visit.
A home that provides a media room also allows for more potential with design in the formal Great Room, as the lack of a TV sets the tone for a more traditional sense of entertaining guests and family, encouraging them to talk around the fireplace or kitchen area.
If you’re like me and prefer socializing and creating relationships while playing sports or activities, then a fantastic media room needs to be on your list of priorities while building or looking for your dream home. here are a few building tips to keep in mind….
1. Flexible yet comfortable seating:
Media rooms, also called “flex rooms,” must quite literally have the capability to flex with whatever activity or event you are hosting takes place. Should you have to move the couch to focus on a ping pong tournament, spectators and upcoming players will need a proper place to watch the match. Find yourself the most comfortable seating that will look amazing in various situations.
2. A Massive TV or Projector:
No media room is complete without an insanely large TV to watch the game or feel like you are in the movie. Or save space in your room with a drop down projector screen or project on your best wall as projector technology has come a long way. Top 10 Projectors. Don’t let us down!
3. Lighting:
It’s super important to set the mood for whatever event you are hosting in your media room. If its a ping pong tournament, have a setting that will make your table look like Arthur Ashe Stadium and one ready to go when its time to Netflix and chill. Smart home technology has come a long way, and most of these applications can be controlled now from your smart phone. I recommend researching Lutron and getting your home dialed in today.
4. Sports:
With so much room for activities, you’ll need to provide ample leisure sports options for your guests. May I recommend any or all of the following should your space allow: Ping Pong Table, Pool Table, Golf Simulator, Dartboard, Shuffleboard Table, Poker Table, Original Nintendo setup or vintage arcade games and pop a shot basketball.
Here are some of my personal favorite media rooms here in our Core Communities…
