In Leadville, Colorado in 1983 at 10,200 ft the Leadville Trail 100 was first run. Today, the Leadville Race Series appeals to athletes seeking competition on both foot and mountain bike (mountain biking was added to the Leadville Race Series in 1994) throughout the country. This endurance challenge requires travel over 100 miles of steep terrain and a finish within 30 hours. Competitors who successfully finish the Trail 100 Run, Trail 100 Mountain Bike, the Marathon, the Silver Rush bike or run, and the 10K earn the title of Leadman or Leadwoman.

Today top mountain bike athletes have gathered once again at Northstar for the Tahoe Trail 100 race. The course for this race begins and ends near The Village at Northstar and takes riders up and down seven peaks along the North Shore of Lake Tahoe.

Also today are the Tahoe Rim Trail Endurance Runs, 55K, 50M, and 100M races. We send our best wishes to TMR’s managing broker Jeff Brown – our favorite ultramarathon runner – who embarked on the 100M race this morning at 5:00 am. The Tahoe Rim Trail 100M Run begins and ends at Spooner Lake State Park, on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, and will challenge competitors with 19,788 ft of elevation gain and descent over 35 hours.

Best of luck to all of the athletes competing in our area today!
