It’s Time for the Truckee Pro Rodeo

The Truckee Championship Pro Rodeo begins this weekend, August 24th and 25th. This will be the 39th year the rodeo has taken place in Truckee, CA.

There was a time, at the beginning, when this great country could survive without cell phones, modern forms of transportation and video games. During this time, a hand shake meant much the same as it does today and your word was the gospel. Families sought out their homes and property by horseback and covered wagon. Home sites and property was given to us by the government in order to expand the country. Farming, roping, riding and tending to our livestock was our culture. Everyone worked to sustain their family and their property. We had to learn what it meant to be a cowboy.

These traditions continue each year all over the world with what we know today as a Rodeo. Men and women compete in events revolved around the way things use to be. Steer Wrestling, Calf Roping, Bare Back Riding, Team Roping, Barrel Racing and Bull Riding to name a few of the events which showcase a different kind of athlete, or simply show how our nation use to do things. These men and women continue the heritage each year in Truckee, CA. No, the prize money and athletes are not the same caliber that you would find in Houston, Dallas, Reno, or at the Calgary Stampede, however, what you will find is a wonderful family event and an opportunity to reflect on how this great nation started.

I’m looking forward to getting my lawn chairs out and taking my daughter to the Rodeo this year. No phone, no text messages, just her and I with other fans taking time to watch a live sporting event that our country once lived by. See you there!
