We’re coming up on July 4th and my family and I are excited to watch the Truckee 4th of July community parade this Tuesday at 10 am starting at the corner of 89 south and Donner Pass road and winding through historic downtown Truckee and finishing at the corner of Bridge and Church street. Start your morning with the classic pancake breakfast at the local fire station on Donner Pass Rd next to Wild Cherries. My family is going to participate in the Firecracker Mile that takes place along the parade route. This has become an annual tradition and is a great way to get the kids excited about exercise as the parade route is cheering them on the entire way. Here is a link to register for the run and the first wave starts at 9:40 am: Firecracker Mile 2017. After that we will then grab a seat downtown near Bar of America and enjoy the fun and excitement with friends and family.

To round out the day we will head up to the summit of Donner Pass off the Old 40 highway and take in the Donner Lake fireworks perched atop a big granite boulder. The show is stunning over Donner Lake starting at 9:30 pm and I highly recommend going to West End Beach to enjoy a full day of fun. With two young children I find the alternative up on the summit is good with less crowds and noise. It is also very easy to leave after the show with no traffic – not to mention it’s pretty spectacular to watch the show high in the Alpine.

After a full night of activities my favorite spot for breakfast is Marty’s Cafe in downtown Truckee. With fantastic service and fresh, home-style and unique options this will start your day off right!

Pick of the Week: 2358 North Summit Place  |  Northstar
This Frank Lloyd Wright inspired MWA  designed home is set just above the Timberline chair in Northstar with incredible views of the Sierra Crest as well as Carson Range. It is one of my favorite homes in all of Northstar and this Big Springs retreat is priced well below replacement value. The amount of thought and detail into every aspect of this home, down to the light fixtures is what makes it so special and unique. This property truly brings the outdoors in, blends seamlessly with its environment and has received multiple awards. The craftsman nature creates a warm and cozy environment in each space throughout this 5 bed, 6 bath 5,694 sq. ft. retreat. For a home of this magnitude in our market it is listed at a very reasonable price of $4,500,000.
