The ski areas are closed, the snow is rapidly melting and the Masters tournament has come and gone. This means that it is time to play golf in Truckee/Tahoe!
Old Greenwood will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year as well as the earliest start to the golf season with the May 2nd opening. The Jack Nicklaus signature golf course is in great early season shape and begging for golfers. Old Greenwood is offering a deal you can’t pass up with early season golf at $90 per player including cart and range practice for as many holes as you can play that day. This rate will run until May 18th so come on up and take advantage of the cooler weather and great deals. It is fun to play in the early season as the Sierra Crest is still holding snow and offers incredible views once you reach hole # 6 a par 5 that will not disappoint. Old Greenwood is such a fun course to start the year off as the fairways are very generous and the second shot demands a little more attention. It is nice to have a wide open fairway where you can find you ball and hit it again as you are working out those early season misses.
If you don’t have the time to tee it up, or you just want to loosen the muscles on the range, you can pay a daily fee for range use to knock of the rust and get the swing lubed back up for the season. Don’t forget about the world class Old Greenwood Golf Academy with Keith Lyford, a Top 100 Golf Teacher by Golf Magazine every year since 1998 that offers just about every program you could dream of for golf instruction and game improvement. Keith has an incredible staff with class A PGA professionals such as Andre Gust that are offering private lessons, clinics, group packages, 5 minute tune-ups corporate golf weeks and much more.
After you have had your fix of Old Greenwood for the week it will be time to catch the opening of Gray’s Crossing which is scheduled for Friday May 9th. You will be ready for the tighter fairways and tee shots and appreciate the easier second shot into some of the best greens in the Sierra’s that accept a high or low shot – whatever you have in the bag that day. Along with the opening of the golf course PJ’s restaurant will be open and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in what I believe is the best outdoor dining in Truckee. Keep an eye out for the PJ’s Tuesday concert series that are free to attend with great drink and dinner specials. The concerts will be kicking off in mid to late June and the calendar of events will be up on the Gray’s Crossing website.
