Epic or Iconic?
When it comes to skiing and snowboarding, one of today’s hardest questions for some of us might just be: Epic pass or Ikon pass? But when it comes to real estate the debate raises another question: what type of home do you prefer – epic new designs, elevated amenities, and legendary features or iconic timeless architecture, quintessential Tahoe elements, and classic finishes.
Epic
These are the new breed of mountain luxury homes. Considered “mountain contemporary” due to the use of new building designs, techniques, and materials. The homes tend to have sharper exterior lines, minimal use of exposed timber and granite, and Scandinavian inspired fixtures and finishes. You’re also far more likely to encounter designs that utilize floor to ceiling glass compositions, allowing for optimal viewing of Tahoe’s natural beauty. Hot rolled steel for mantles and portions of the exterior siding are also prevalent in the new mountain contemporary design.
Iconic
These are the timeless, classic Tahoe homes that many of us grew up around or remember seeing in magazines. These homes use tried and true building methods such as post and beam construction, creating exposed wooden rafters and supports. These homes are embellished in hand hewn, locally sourced timber, as well as granite for mantles and flooring.
So which one are you? A healthy balance of both worlds? Let me know and I can send you some listings with those aesthetics.
