Winter is in the air… we’ve had two storms this fall which brought dustings of snow to Truckee and an accumulation of 6-12 inches on the peaks. Just this past week, I was able to take part in one of my favorite fall traditions, building the first fire in our wood burning stove. There’s nothing like cozying up with the family after a long day of splitting and stacking wood. I’ve noticed the rest of town is preparing for the change of seasons as well. With opening day on the horizon (November 21) and cold air temperatures at night, Northstar has begun their snow making.
Real Estate Pick of the Week:
With the Thanksgiving holiday approaching, my real estate pick for this week is a wonderful family home in Lahontan; a distinctive community that prides itself on providing an unsurpassed experience for all members of your family. Beyond the incredible golf you will find on their Weiskopf Designed Championship and Par 3 Courses, Lahontan boasts a beautiful and rustic Lodge for dining and events, a full-service Spa and Fitness Area that was recently remodeled, and a Family Camp that recently underwent $250,000 of improvements and is currently seeing a $1.2M expansion. Lahontan was the first private golf club in Truckee and has set the bar high for quality and value, which we see with their continued club improvements. Aside from all of the wonderful amenities and programs, one of the best things about Lahontan is their financial stability. All of the aforementioned projects were, and are, being done within budget and with no assessments to the members. In fact, golf club dues have only increased by $2,000 in the last decade and HOA dues have only increased by $200 annually since 1997.
The club architecture echoes Tahoe’s past, similar to the grand estates and summer lodges found lakeside at Lake Tahoe. You will notice the abundance of open space and spectacular views, which make the perfect setting for the 4 bedroom, 4.5 bathroom home at 585 Stewart McKay. Its location takes advantage of some of Lahontan’s most spectacular views of the meadow and Northstar’s Lookout Mountain. It’s also situated steps from the Lodge, Spa, and Golf Shop and a short walk to the Camp. This Ward Young designed mountain modern home is a display of great attention to detail, with hand-hewn timbers sourced from an Elkhorn gold mine, antique reclaimed douglas fir floors, a native granite floor-to-ceiling fireplace, and a reclaimed wood ceiling harvested from horse corrals in Idaho and Montana. Ideal for families, it boasts conveniences such as a bunkroom with built-in dressers and custom lockers and cubbies in the mudroom. There are too many special features to mention that marry outstanding craftsmanship with the functionalities that families look for in a second home in Tahoe, this home must be seen in person.
