Saturday night some friends and I attended the 5th Annual Black Tie & Tails event at The Ritz- Carlton, Lake Tahoe. The event is held to raise money for the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. The Tahoe facility is a no kill shelter so I really felt like showing support.
Upon arrival, we were greeted with a Hollywood-style red carpet for the mutts to strut their stuff. We were all given champagne and appetizers, the dogs even got in on the appetizer action. There were all sorts of breeds present; small purse pooches to big Great Danes. The dogs were dressed in adorable outfits, the females wore dresses and the males looked dashing in their pup tuxes and suits.
Throughout the evening, volunteers from the Humane Society walked around with dogs of all ages, shapes and sizes, each available for adoption. During dinner there was a slideshow presentation highlighting the success stories of past adoptions and the amazing work the Humane Society does for local animals, and the community.
The evening concluded with dancing and over 50 silent auction items sold! The shelter is in the process of building a new facility to accommodate and rescue more animals, so the money raised is much needed and will be put to good use.
This was my first time attending the event, and I have to say it will not be my last. I would encourage everyone to attend next year to help support such a worthy cause.
